Science Fair

The annual Science Fair will be held March 6-7, 2014.  You may enter one of the following projects:

Experiment – a display and explanation of an experiment which follows the scientific method. Volcanoes will not be accepted. Mentos/Coke experiments will not be accepted either.

Invention – a working model which solves a specific problem or makes a job easier to do.  Inventions should test a variable and follow the scientific method.

Biological and zoological projects are accepted at the discretion of the student’s teacher.  However, live and preserved specimens may not be displayed at the Science Fair.

Parents are encouraged to guide students, but not build the project.  Remember, a good project is planned and developed over a period of time.  I will be handing out the packet on Monday, January 27.  The packet will guide them step by step through the entire process.  The very first part of the assignment is a signature on the parent note (which is pretty much what I’ve written above.)  If students need some help coming up with ideas, here are a few websites they can browse:

Below is a copy of the calendar showing when every single part of the science fair packet is due, all the way to the final board on March 6.

Here is also a copy of the rubric showing how I will be grading the science fair.  This is a fairly large part of  third term grades, so it would be a good idea to make sure the students are keeping on top of it.

SF RubricAs always, if you, parents or students, have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
