Next Week: February 2-6

Language Arts: I have decided this week that we will at least read one of the stories from our textbook once because it goes with the writing prompt I;m going to give them  We will be reading The Emperor’s Silent Army.  It goes hand in hand with the writing prompt we will be working on in our homeroom.

“Archaeologists dig to learn about the past.  Some civilizations believe archaeological digs to be a desecration of their ancestors and that it shouldn’t be done.  What do you think?  Is it more important to learn about the history of the world, or to maintain the sacred ground of our ancestors?”

We will spend a day close reading some articles (Archaeology) to give them some background information on the topic. They will then take what they have learned to brainstorm and  write an essay answering the prompt.

We will also have our usual grammar lesson and Reader’s Notebook pages 256-261.

Spelling: Spelling Lists

Science: We will be continuing in our light unit, most likely quizzing on Thursday.   The students should be continuing into their science fair projects.  Worksheet 2 is due on Tuesday.

Also remember the After School Support.  I only had three kids take advantage of it this week, which is fine, but a considerable number of students haven’t turned in some of the worksheets due, so it concerns me a little bit.  I am going to lay down a rule that the last weeks of the club will not be used to help students get caught up who hadn’t been taking this month to work on their project.  I know, I’m mean, but that isn’t fair to those who have been coming in for support the whole time.  I am more than happy to support in any way I can throughout the project, but you need to let me know if there’s anything I can do away from the in class stuff we’ve done and the after school club.
