Science Fair Club

Dear Parents,

Science Fair will be starting next week. They will receive their packets on January 21.  Because most of the project is considered an at-home activity, we would like to add additional support in the form of an after school club.   We would like to have a couple of parent volunteers that help us with this support.  The club would meet five different times, once a week, twice the last week, in Mr. Pratt’s classroom from 3:30-4:30.  Students could come for any or all of the time depending on how much extra support they need with the process.  Each week will focus on a different part of the projects.

 Day 1 – January 29 – Worksheets 1 and 2: Research, Hypothesis, and Procedure
Day 2 – February 5 – Worksheet 3: How to and conducting the experiments
Day 3 – February 12 – Worksheets 3, 4, and 5: Conducting experiments, and gathering and recording data, interpreting results
Day 4 – February 17 – Worksheets 4 and 5, and board – Interpreting Results, Creating display board
Day 5 – February 19 – Display Board – Finishing touches on the display board

The club will be run by Mr. Pratt but we are asking for parent volunteers to help support the 5 days of this after school program.  The number of volunteers needed will vary greatly upon the number of students who choose to utilize the support, but I would imagine 3 to 4 parents a day would be best.  Ideally, we would have the same parents volunteering for all 5 groups, but I know this might be hard, so I am willing to take any and all of the help I can get.  If you are willing to help with this, please send me an e-mail at apratt@syracuseartsacademy.org.

If you would like your child to participate in this, please plan on arranging carpool for them on the five days listed above.

Science Fair is always a fun activity that, done properly, is highly educational.  The club will hopefully help support these projects so they are done so they are most beneficial to the students.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Thanks,
Aaron Pratt
