Welcome, welcome, welcome!

First off, I’d just like to welcome everyone back!  New and old students alike, 5th grade is done, summer is almost over, and if you’re anything like me, you’re ready to start the new year!  I’m super excited for our new school family!  For the next nine months, we’ll be spending more of our waking moments together than with our own families. This means, though we may not be best friends with everyone, we will respect everyone and create a positive, nurturing environment that everyone is happy to be a part of.

Just a few things to start the year off:

* Remember, back to school night is August 18.  I use this as a chance to meet the students I don’t already know, double check the contact information I have, and send home any information or forms that you need.  Please be sure to come.  There will be two sessions, either 6:00 or 6:45.  You are welcome to come to whichever one best fits your schedule.

* The first day of school is August 21. Please remember the school hours have been adjusted this year.  School days will begin at 8:10.  We will meet behind the K-4 building back by the playground.  Full days will release at 3:15, and short days will release at 12:45.  Remember, the first two days of school are both early out.

* The 6th Grade Supply List has been posted on the school’s website.  If you haven’t seen it already, please take a look at it.  The sooner they have the supplies, the better.

* Every year I have at least some parents ask if there are any supplies we need for the classroom.  Below is a “Wish List” of things we can always use in the room.  If you want to help supply some of it now, or at any time throughout the year, it’d be greatly appreciated.  If you are unable to buy anything extra, no worries!

  • Tissues
  • Paper Towels
  • Clorox Wipes
  • Sanitizer
  • Pencils
  • Colored Pencils
  • Markers
  • Copy Paper
  • Glue Sticks
  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Dry Erase Markers
  • Sharpies (Black and Colored)
  • Highlighters
  • Small Nic-nacs for prize box

* Moat all of our required forms (Locker Agree, Computer Usage Agreement, etc.) are now online through the Student Online Packet.  It is a fluid system and they will occasionally add things to it, so I would recommend everyone take a look at this page just to make sure you have everything filled in.

* This blog and e-mail are the two main ways I will communicate.  I recommend checking them both often. Each week I will post our Homework Board.  We will take the time to fill in this and our planners daily so the two should mirror each other.  I will also be posting to my Math Blog. However, this will work a bit differently than it did last year.  I have every Math Concept that we will be covering this year already typed up.  Each week I will make a post letting you know which topics we will be covering that week. I have posted a Sample Week so you can know what these will look like.  It is there for both parent and student use.  In fact, I recommend the students pre-read each week’s topics to help better understand what I will be teaching that week.  It is also there as a reference if they get home and can’t remember how to do certain things.  It is my goal to add copies of the homework assignments to each topic as well.  This will give you access to the assignments from home if a student is ever absent or misplaces their copy.

I am SUPER excited for this year to start!  Hopefully everyone else is as ready as I am!  We’re going to have a great year!!!
