L.A.: This week we will be starting the Story Team Moon. With this, we will be doing Reader’s Notebook pages 183, 185, 186, 187, 188 and 189. This pages will guide us through the vocabulary skill of analogies, a few spelling practice sheets, and our grammar concept of active and passive voice with subject and verb agreement. The vocabulary words are listed below. The 5 focus words are random, unpredictability, hovering, impending, and option.
Science: There was an art activity that I skipped in hopes of making up some time before the test, but the test results show me that I should have done that project. I think that most of the students would be able to express in words why we have seasons, ie. it’s summer when we’re pointed toward the sun, but they struggled to translate that to the diagram. The typical diagram of why we have seasons looks like the picture below:
The thing that they struggle with in this diagram is the 3-dimensions of it, so the Earths on top and bottom are actually in front and behind. On the test, a lot of people wanted to say that #4 was summer, where really it should have been #1. The art project we will do on Monday and Tuesday will hopefully reinforce this idea. There is an exemplar of this project from a previous year pictured below.
Wednesday we will being our new unit on Heat, Light and Sound by watching a Billy Nye video on Heat.. Thursday we will start a reading of a Science A-Z book on Heat.
They will also be taking the pretest for the new unit during the Arts & Tech rotation on Monday. Thanks, Mrs. McGuire, for helping me make up some time.
