Character Matters II

character mattersYou might think that Fairy Tale Characters: Snow White, the Dwarves, Prince Charming, and so on; have it perfect, but, believe it or not, they have some of the same every day life struggles that we have.  This is the cute little story of some of the fairy tale characters bringing their problems to the advice council.

This is the play that our class is going to be presenting this year.  We’ve just begun the process, but I’m really excited to be back at it.  We spent the last week learning the 10 different songs .  On Monday, we will be having auditions.  After that, I will place them in their parts.  Everyone in the class will be cast as something.  Some people in the class might even be put into a couple of roles.  I have asked the students which parts they want, and based on the audition and their requests, I will make the cast list.

This is part of where I need your help.  I will post the cast list here on the blog after school, hopefully, Wednesday.  As much as I’ll try, not everyone will get a part they requested.  Please help me if your student ends up being one of those.  Help them to understand that this is a natural progression of theater.  They have an advantage here in that they are guaranteed a part, I just can’t guarantee them all the part they want, otherwise, there are 3 or 4 parts that wouldn’t have anyone cast in them.

After I’ve created the cast list, I will get out costume lists.  I do my best to make things as easy as possible.  (ie. Princesses are just in a pretty dress which they probably have in their closets at home.)  I will need your help with this as well.  If you have anything on the list that could be helpful, please let me know.

Also, go ahead and mark your calendars now.  We will be having 3 different performances, but the one that parents and families are invited to will be on March 27.

I’ve had a class performance every year except for last (we tried to write a play and took on a bit more than we could chew), and I always set my expectations of the students fairly high.  However, I’ve yet to have a performance where I wasn’t a proud teacher as the students excel past all my expectations.  Mark your calendars, be prepared, and remember, Character Matters!
