NEW! Math blog!

Ron Clark

I am going to be trying something new this year, and I hope I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew.  At a conference this summer, I got the privilege of seeing Ron Clark speak.  For those who don’t know, Ron Clark is a pretty famous educator who took over a classroom in Harlem and brought their test scores up remarkably further than anyone thought possible.  He has written a book which I reference from time to time, The Essential 55, and he has had a movie made about him, The Ron Clark Story.  Anyway, he did what he called a Math Night at his school where he invited parents and students alike to come in and discuss the week’s math, so that parents were able to help their students at home.  Though I don’t think it as necessary as it would be in Harlem to meet weekly, I think it’s important for parents to keep up, and help the students with their work, and let’s be honest, even sixth grade math is not always easy.

With that being said, it is my goal to post here once a week, letting you know what the lessons for the next weeks math will be. For these first three short days, we are just going to be giving the beginning of the year preassessments, so there are no new lesson, but this coming weekend, I will post short lessons for the next week’s math.  Please, please use it, and give me feedback.  Let me know if you like it, and use it, and what I could do to improve it. If it’s valuable, and I know people are using it, I will be much more likely to make sure I stay on top of it.
