Parts of a Ratio
This comes in handy when I have the simplest form of a ratio, and I know the total amount, but I want to know the specific parts of the ratio. I’m sure that didn’t make sense, but let’s go through an example and hopefully it will.
There are 24 students in a class. The ratio of boys to girls is 1:3. How many boys and girls are there?
So I know the total number, but I am trying to figure out how many of each separate part. There are three basic steps. The left column tells you the steps, the right column shows you the steps for the example.
