M.R. rock whose structure, texture or composition have change

can be changed by heat and or pressure or both

texture- foliated- minerals are arrange themselves in bands or planes ( striped)

non-foliated – minerals are not arranged in bands

recrystalization-change in size or mineral

contact metamorphism- occurs near igneous intrusion

1. magma moves thru the crust the magma shears surrounding rock and changes it.

2. some minerals are changed into other minerals

3. Greatest- change takes place where magma comes in direct contact with the rock

Regional Metamorphism- large area

1. pressure builds up below other rock formations

2. large pieces of Earths crust collide with each other

minerals change into a new minerals carbon/graphite turns into diamond.
