Wed 27 Nov- More Beowulf Reading

What we did:

  • Turned in reading logs
  • Read Beowulf (Pop quiz on what we’ve read so far on Monday! You will do great as long as you have read it!):
  • Period 1 read up to and including section 25
  • Period 2 read up to and including section 30
  • Period 4 read up to and including section 33
  • Period 6 read up to and including section 29

Homework:

  • Read for 20 minutes

Tues 26 Nov – BEOWULF!!

What we did:

  • Journal: “Christmas Music”
  • Today we read a LOT of Beowulf in class and dissected its meaning, figuring out what happened in each section. Here is where we got to in each period:
    • Period 1: We read up to and including section 22
    • Period 2: We read up to and including section 27
    • Period 4: We read up to and including section 30
    • Period 6: We read up to and including section 27
  • So if you missed class, make sure that you read the sections you missed, and make sure that you understand what happened in each section, there will be a quiz!

Homework:

  • Read for 20 minutes
  • Finish journal
  • Due tomorrow:
    • Reading log

THURS More on Introduction Paragraphs

What we did:

  • Journal: write about aliens
  • Review of the writing process and 5 paragraph essay structure
  • Analyze several paragraphs whether they are “good” introduction paragraphs or not
  • Write several introduction paragraphs on various topics with partner

  • Read for 20 minutes
  • Finish journal entry
  • Due tomorrow: reading log
  • Due tomorrow: journal

Wed: Class captains/Introductions

Some of the class periods were a little off from each other today because we presented the class captain essays and voted today if we hadn’t already done that last week. If we had, then we worked more on writing introduction paragraphs. Here’s the skinny:

 

Today what we did:

  • Journal time: write about whales (150 words)
  • Planner time
  • Pass back tests and go over questions on grades
  • Read class captain essays to class and vote on class captain
  • *Depending on time, we also worked on writing introduction paragraphs and going over the elements of an introduction paragraph.

Homework:

  • Read for 20 minutes
  • Finish journal entry

Tuesday: History of English

Homework:

  • Finish journal
  • read for 20 minutes
  • study vocabulary

What we did today:

  • Today we finished the Grendel visualization project
  • we learned about the history of the English language
  • We learned how to write capitol letters in print correctly (will continue throughout the week)

Monday: New Vocab and More Beowulf

  • Read for 20 minutes
  • Study new vocab
  • finish Grendel picture

What we did:

  • went over new vocab words
  • read up to and including section 3 of Beowulf
  • Highlighted ONLY the descriptions of Grendel
  • Drew picture of Grendel
  • Labeled picture with descriptions
  • Cited the descriptions
