Ceramic       TILE TRIVETS

Concept: You work at a tile factory. Your boss likes how hard you work and has seen your sketch book. The boss asks you to design two tile trivets that are interrelate for the company to sale. This is a great opportunity.

Stage 1

  1. Make your design chart & include seven filled in boxes (as shown in class). Draw your idea. Write your idea in words as if you were describing it to someone. State two principles of design in your write-up, and underline those words. Put your name, date, and period at the top of the paper.
  2.  In tile format draw on paper your picture. Rub on graphite pencil on the back of this paper making it ready to transfer your designed picture. Check off your design chart and design transfer papers for points.
  3. Wash your hands and then get your two white tiles.
  4. Transfer design. Touch up design as needed. Following proper procedures to glaze your tiles. Remember no glaze on foot or foot rim. Set on shelf to dry.
  5. Place in tile kiln rack when ready to be fired.

Stage 2

  1. Get your tile.
  2. Cut neatly trimmed felt squares, one for each corner.
  3. Glue felt on bottom corners of tile.
  4. Line up trivets with your idea/transfer drawing and design chart under the trivets.

CRITERIA: GREAT 10p., GOOD 7p., DEVELOPING 4p.
